We have been taking a look at the recent resurgence of demand for Made in Britain goods. Do you think it is worth paying up for goods made here in the UK from start to finish? Does this guarantee you quality, is the old saying ‘You get what you pay for’ true? We undertook a recent poll of brides to see whether they would be prepared to pay more for a wedding dress completely ‘Made in Britain’, and we were very surprised by the positive results we got back. Many of you said you would be more than happy to pay extra in the knowledge that you were receiving a dress made completely in the UK. It was generally felt that

Flying pigs – an unusual wedding theme!!!

flying pig drapes-fifties wedding blog

This one made us smile as well: Want to think of something rather unusual to decorate your venue and emphasise your theme? How about something like this? Crescent Moon sent us this picture recently of the fabulous drapes they created for a truly unique wedding!                           As you can see, the drapes were completely personalized with flying pigs, which is an unusual request, but gave a fantastically unique and personal effect to the wedding and for the couple. Crescent Moon can create completely bespoke drapes like these for any event or wedding, and they are becoming increasingly popular! So – if you want to smile at your wedding consider something a little bit different like this!

Vintage wedding gifts inspired by the 1950s

50s gifts

When it comes to weddings, it can be difficult to decide what present you should buy the bride and groom. Grace Nolan, Ivy Ellen Wedding Invitations, suggests that if they are having a vintage wedding and haven’t settled on a gift list, or if you’re looking to get them something original and special, 1950s inspired gifts are the way to go. The 1950s was a time of pastel colours, patterned dresses, lace and pearls, long gloves, hats and eccentric dancing. Weddings would be lively events, and gifts would be given to the bride and groom from the guests. These gifts may have been handmade tokens or valuable antiques, such as furniture and picture frames.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend – but were they always?

1950s influences: Wedged between the war torn 40s and the swinging 60s, the 50s was a decade characterized by the world recovering from the aftermath of World War II and entering the throes of the Cold War. It was a decade where television, with all its pervading influence, began to really take hold and enter households en mass across the world. Toward the middle of the decade, rock ‘n roll came to prominence, jolting the world out of its pop and crooner inspired comfort. As for science, we developed polio immunisation, the pacemaker, the video recorder, the computer modem and Fortran programming language – just for starters! However, ignoring the huge growth in technology, let’s get down to the important matters – our jewellery and diamond wedding rings. What were the trends in the 50s, how were they affected by the upturn in economies and do they hold any relevance to today’s jewellery trends?

Have you ever wondered what fabulous alternative favour ideas there might be out there? A few years ago, my husband and I had the privilege of being invited to a wonderful wedding in Paris. The beautiful Brazilian bride wanted to bring a Brazilian flair to her day and thought of the brilliant idea of giving a pair of flip-flops to each person as their favour! We had wondered why our shoe size had been requested with our invitation response!

Fifties Wedding Blog – would you like to be the new owner?

'Real 50s Wedding' - like Audrey or not?

I have recently found myself spending more time supporting my elderly parents as they reach a time in life where they cannot get around as much as they used to. This is all good – it is good to be able to give time back to them when I think of all they have done for me over the years. However – it does mean that with my other business as well as the blog to look after, I am now finding myself short of time to maintain the blog in the way that I would like. Hence – I am open to offers to take it over on a permanent basis.
