Today I am whisking Ant off on a surprise 30th birthday trip to New York (*huge grin*) and so it’s the perfect reason to post some inspiration for a New York inspired 50s wedding.
I can’t not start off without rambling about our trip though The last time I went to New York was about 8 years ago so I am definitely due for one. It’s such a buzzy & exciting city, and I can’t wait to sample all the yummy food too! I wanted to do something really special for Ant this year since it’s one of the big birthdays, and a surprise trip I thought would be so special. My secret planning began in early December when I asked Ant’s mum to invite him for a fake trip to theirs over his birthday. I was worried about being able to afford the cost of it all, but thank goodness for the BA flight sale and my fabulous parents who gave us a joint birthday/xmas present of a few nights in a hotel. Now it’s here I am so ridiculously excited!!
In fact we have featured a New York 50s style wedding on the blog before. Rowena and Darren’s wedding conjures up images of Central Park in the 50s I think. So beautiful. Their tables were named after places they had visited in New York too.
I also found these great pictures taken in 1950s New York. A great starting point to feel inspired!
If you’re thinking of having a New York theme for your wedding you could extend it to your canapes. Think pastrami & horseradish crostini, mini hot dogs & hamburgers, fresh-baked pretzels. Of course some city cocktails need to be served up with them!
For New York favours how about mini New York Travel guides, old New York postcards, I love NY mints or these personalised New York mint tins available from Favors and Flowers.
For New York cupcakes I think these ones by Paris-based Sugar Daze are just fab! For the ultimate in New York authentic cupcakes I also have on good authority that Crumbsbake some of the best. These summer ‘picnic’ cupcakes below consist of Choclate Sundae, S’mores, Watermelon, Apple Cobbler, Pink Lemonade & Pina Colada. Wow.
I’d be interested to hear if any of our readers are getting married in New York or are thinking of having a New York inspired wedding. Please leave us a comment if you are!
