Royal Weddings and Fifties & Vintage Wedding Themes

Well this is the month of the first, and possibly the most important, Royal wedding of the year – Kate Middleton & Prince William. They are to marry at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, which has been declared a bank holiday in celebration.

This is of  course is followed by Prince Albert’s, the son of 1950s icon Grace Kelly, wedding.

The Prince’s palace announced that the religious marriage of His Royal Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and Miss Charlene Wittstock will be celebrated on Saturday, July 9, 2011.

Finally we have another British Royal wedding of Zara Phillips to Mike Tindall.

The Queen’s granddaughter and Mike Tindall will wed at the Canongate Kirk on July 30 – a venue and date that ceased to be a secret in January after a couple changed their plans to accommodate Zara.

Do we think any of these couples will have a fifties wedding theme or a vintage style ceremony or reception? Well readers lets speculate.

If we look at the Royal wedding on 29th April first…

The palace says Miss Middleton will travel to the ceremony by car. Will the bride arrive in a vintage car? Unlikely but lets have a look at a few.

Too blue…                               Possibly?                               Too small…

We know the newly-weds will return to Buckingham Palace in a glass carriage along Parliament Square, Whitehall, Horse Guards Parade and The Mall. The Queen will then host a reception at the palace, followed by a private dinner and dancing in the evening.

The wedding breakfast will be served on vintage china – I am certain nothing contemporary will do.  I have no idea what sort of china her majesty uses  but there are some wonderful designs.

These lovely bone china pieces are from China Search which is an amazing site for replacing and finding vintage bone china pieces. Buckingham Palace take note.

1950s cutlery would be perfect. The crystal will all be vintage too.

Shall we take a peek at Kate’s shoes…1950s ??

For inspiration there are some lovely vintage shoes via Girls of Elegance and via our wonderful shoe gallery and our archive.

How about the cake? These are fine examples of fifties style wedding cakes. For more on the history of 50s wedding cakes please have a read here.

Our Royals might just like to add a 50s or vintage inspired topper to the cake. For more food ideas see our archive.

Prince Albert’s wedding will also have similar vintage themes. His parents wedding ideas could feature.

Grace Kelly wedding

Zara Phillips could possibly wear a wonderful 1950s style dress as she will have, possibly, the least formal wedding of the three couples. Zara do take a look at all our wonderful 50s wedding dresses in our wedding dress gallery.

Anyhow its fun to speculate but we can see that every wedding is going to have some vintage inspired theme even if it is only the pearl necklace or a bone china teacup.
