Head Over Heals for Headbands – Vintage & Fifties Bridal Hair Accessories

For some reason I have a sudden delight for the humble headband. Perhaps it has something to do with their recent popularity, but over Christmas I found an abundance of gorgeous headbands on the net and in the shops. In the sales I bought a one for myself from Monsoon, which is very 1920s and perfect for dressing up my boring brown locks on a night out.

I have also been in touch with a few designers in the last couple of weeks who make the most beautiful hair accessories, and I am so pleased to be able to showcase them and their headbands on the blog today. I have picked some of my favourites which are a mixture of both 50s and other vintage inspired bridal hair accessories.

First up from Katie Vale Designs is this headband which has a neat row of Swarovski Crystal stones (£65).  This is a striking bridal headband that is simple yet glamorous, and perfect I think for an elegant 1950s updo.

Secondly we have another stunning piece from Katie Vale Designs – an alice band made with individual little white roses (£110). I stumbled across this when Katie posted this new design on Twitter, and am so glad that I did! This would be perfect for a girly & feminine bride or bridesmaid. Also as everything is hand made to order any slight variations can be made to suit your colour scheme.

Keeping in with the rose theme, this beautiful pearl rose fifties inspired headband from Wedding and Baby (£50) is so pretty. I think this would really suit a  side bun hairstyle. As regular readers will know, I love anything with pearls so this is right up my street.

I have also recently discovered the very talented Hermione Harbutt who makes the most glamorous and beautiful wedding jewellery, and has an amazing collection of headbands – in fact too many to put into one blog post so you’ll have to visit her website. One of my favourites though is this vintage inspired Feather Odette Headdress (£265), and below the Peacock Glamour Headdress (£325).

This Vintage Hollwood ‘Take a Bow’ headband from Fable Dreams (approx £125/$190) is also one of my favourites. With a sparkly bow it is a very 1950s bridal hair accessory. The bow sits on a sliver plated headband and is finshed with diamante trimming to the band. I love the gift box that comes with it too – a really beautiful gift to yourself or someone else too.

For a dainty vintage inspired pearl bridal headband I think this ‘Vanessa II’ piece by the fabulous Chez Bec is beautiful. It features ivory freshwater pearls set with three sparkling diamante and freshwater pearl side decorations. Stunning! Chez Bec also do the most wonderful packaging (I get excited about these things) – each item is placed in a pink pouch, then wrapped with layers of tissue paper, and finally placed in a luxurious gift box.

There are so many gorgeous vintage and fifties bridal headbands out there. I think this is a great choice for a wedding hair accessory if you are looking for something feminine and striking. They are so comfortable to wear as well, and you don’t need to worry about anything falling out!
